Peeler, AF 18385897 3750th Medieal Group, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, was standing on the 5th Street hospital ramp in the hospital area during his lumeh period, when the noise aroused by two (2), B-25 type aireraft flying Westward, caused him to look up at the sky. ve Upon looking upward, Peeler saw an object appear in the sky at a very high unknown altitude. The object on its initial appearance appear- ed to be cirevlar, and was aprx one and five tenths (1.5) inches ih diameter,(as observed from the ground with the naked eye).The thickness of the object. could not be determined. The object began losing altitude at a very fast rate of speed, bub continuing to travel in a Northwest to Southeast direction. The height.of the object when it appeared at its lowest altitude could not be determined, but appeared very much higher than the aircraft flying in the immediate vicinity, (NOTE: It is estimated that the aircraft were flying at an altitude of 2000 ft.) The maximum diameter of the object as observed by Peeler, was aprx & inches. It was also observed at this point that the object appeared to be spinning horizontally. (NOTE: See Sndiaiad oxbibitel. The object when observed at its lowest altitude appeared to be elliptical in shape, and slightly conical on the top and bottom sides. The color was silvery-white, with what appeared to be a phosphores- cent glow, The object was apparently made of metal, although Peeler states that he had never seen Such a glow on any metal. Base Intelligence Office Sheppard Air Force Base, Teyas —TR-3-53 WEATHER: The weather for the reporting period was clear, Winds were from the Northwest at six (6) miles per hour. Temperature was 96 degrees. Visibility was 15 miles. REMARKS: The length of time in which Peeler saw the object was from eight (8) to ten (10) seconds. A/2C Elmer C. Grimes, AF 14367376, and A/2C Richard L. Porter, AF 13420845, also assigned to the 3750th Medical Group, this Headquarters, were with Peeler at the time the object appeared, and both confirmed Peeler's statements, They stated that they had seen the object for aprx two (2) seconds, The brief description given by Grimes and Port- er generally agrees with the report submitted by Peeler, COMMENTS BY THE PREPARING OFFICER: 1, This is the first report of this Headquarters indicating any unusual sighting over the immediate base area, Previous sightings appear- ed 27 July 1952, and 2 May 1952.° (Ref: IR-1-52, and IR-2-52, this Head- quarters) 2. A check was made with neighboring military and civilian units to determine whether or not, any had reveived similar réports, further to determine if any weather instruments had been dispatched over the reporting area and during that period of time, The results were negative, 3. The two (2) aircraft in the vicinity of the sighting were piloted by Captain Schwartz, of the 3570th Observer Training Group, this Headquarters, and 17Lt Underwood, who was arriving from Waco, Texas. Captain Schwartz stated that he had arrived at this Headquarters at 1216, 9 July 1953, but that he had not observed any unusual sighting at any time during his flight. 4. All three (3) airmen appeared to be of average or above average intelligence, and remained consistent in their statements. The airmen are Permanent Party personnel at this Headquarters and confessed, that prior to the sighting, they had never believed in,"Flying Saucers". 5. The report cenerally agrees with Statements submitted by the two(2) airmen who were with the undersigned at the time the incident appeared, "On 9 July 1953, I A/2C Robert G, Peeler, was sitting on the 5th Street ramp of the base hospital, 3750th Medical Group, with A/2C Elmer C., Grimes, and A/2C Richard L. Porter, also of the 3750th Medical Group, this Head- quarters, At aprx 1205 hours, I heard a niose in the sky behind me, Looking upward, I noticed two (2), B-25 type aircraft flying in a West- ward direction, After a few seconds, a strange flying object appeared in the sky, and I follewed it with my eyes during its course of travel, It appeared to be aceircular dise when first observed, aprx one (1) inch in diameter. The object appeared to increase its size as it came towards me from an unknown very high altitude. The circular Shape of the object seemed to change to elliptical the closer it became. The object was travel- ing in a Southwest direction, at a very fast unknown rate of speed, Much faster than I have ever seen on an aircraft in flight, After the three (3) of us had seen the object it was reported to the Base Intelligence Office, The object when it first appeared, seemed to be very much higher than the aircraft that were flying in the immediate aréa, and it appeared to be traveling towards us, and at the same time across the sky. The convincing factor that it was not an aircraft, was that the object was spinning horizontally and yet travelling with a forward motion. The object at its largest point, appeared to be eight (2) inches in diameter as observed with the naked eye. The color of the object was difficult to define, it was a Silvery-white, but emmitting an unusual glow, that appeared to be bright and dull at the same time, It travelled from the Northwest to the Southeast, but forming an orbit to the South- west. It also appeared to have made a verticle "U", before dissappearing Over neighboring buildings, As it came closer, the object seemed to Slow-down considerablg, and then suddenly it again gained altitude and dissappeared at a very fast rate of speed," fobet A Pebe ROBERT G.
