At approximately 19:3, MST, 27 January 1953, S/Sget John E Helmer, AF 1628 6456, of the 63rd Bomb Squadron, 43rd Bomb Wing, Medium, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and his wife Mrs Dorothy Helmer, of 4351 Eastland Street, Tucson, Arizona, observed an unidentified flying object traveling in a general Southwest direction. The object was traveling at a high rate of speed and appeared to trail a rocket-type exhaust. (See diagram). The object appeared round, brilliant white in color and larger than the largest star in the sky. There was no discernible propulsion noise. S/Sgt Helmer states the object disappeared in about one minute after traveling through about 30 degrees of arc. It faded from view as if due to great distance. 2. Significance — Unknown.
